Sheriff: Time For Citizens To Arm Themselves

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright is well known for his candid style of speaking and at a press conference this is known for speaking his mind, and at a news conference today, he let loose his anger and frustration when questions about a woman who was assaulted in Milliken Park over the weekend.

Authorities said a woman walking her dog was attacked by 46-year-old Walter Lance at the park on Sunday afternoon. They said Lance choked the woman, stripped her naked and then tried to rape her.

Lance has been apprehended by authorities and has been denied bond.

Sheriff Wright began his press conference by saying, "Our form of justice is not making it," and he said, "I'm really aggravated."

He said, "Carry a concealed weapon. That'll fix it."

Palestine bid faces new barrier at UN

The effort to establish a Palestinian state may suffer additional setbacks. 

The new temporary Security Council members usually support the position of the United States, a UN analyst has said.

"This election won't help the Palestinian cause," Jeff Laurenti was quoted as saying by Businessweek on Saturday. Laurenti is a UN analyst with the Century Foundation

"Guatemala will be in favor of everything Palestinian until the Americans tell them otherwise. They can be persuaded to abstain," Laurenti added.

This past Friday, Pakistan, Morocco, Togo and Guatemala were elected to the 15-nation UN Security Council for 2012 and 2013.

The new countries replaced Lebanon, Nigeria, Gabon and Brazil. These previous council members were expected to support the Palestinian statehood bid.

The Mosin Nagant: A Reasonably Priced Rifle

Most of us have noticed a significant increase in crime in our local areas. We must realize that this spike in crime isn’t a fluke, the crime rate is going to continue to go up almost in direct proportion to our souring economy.

As the crime rate continues to increase law enforcement will have a more difficult time in effectively combating it. What this means is that increasingly people are going to have to take responsibility in securing their safety and that of their families.

If the economy does get bad enough it is possible that we could see civil disorder or rioting similar to what we saw in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. And the prospect of this should be more than enough incentive for us to start stocking up on firearms and ammunition while we still can.

Unfortunately most of us don’t have the money to spend on acquiring a significant arsenal of weapons to protect ourselves, which is why I suggest for those who are tight on money to at least purchase a Mosin Nagant rifle.

It’s possible to find these rifles in good condition for just over $100 and I’ve seen ones go in excellent condition for $160. The rifle fires the 7.62x54R cartridge. This cartridge is comparable in size and range to the US made .30-06 round.

In this video a sharp shooter is able to hit targets over 600 yards out with his scoped Nagant.

The rifle can only hold a maximum of five rounds but what it lacks in bullet capacity it makes up for in range. A Nagant fitted with a scope can hit targets at 1,000 yards.

The rifle is very reliable compared to most American made rifles. However there is one slight drawback to the rifle which is that it has a straight bolt instead of an angle bolt. Some shooters prefer this arrangement over an angle bolt. However there is a kit available that allows you to install an angle bolt on the rifle. The kit costs about $60 with shipping and includes scope mounts for the rifle. You can pick up the Mosin Nagant scope kit from cheaperthandirt.com.

You can purchase reasonably priced ammunition for the weapon from jgsales.com. They have Russian made 7.62x54R FMJ ammo in 440 round tins for just under $110 with the shipping. When you do purchase ammo for your rifle make sure that you buy non-corrosive rounds.

Lastly, be sure to shop around and try to find wholesalers for the rifle, otherwise you’ll find yourself paying more than you want for it.

DC area tops US income list; average fed employee makes $126,000 a year

According to government figures Washington D.C. has surpassed San Jose as the wealthiest U.S. metropolitan area. Federal workers total compensation averages more than $126,000 per year. Also contributing to D.C. placing first is that it has the highest concentration of lawyers in the nation.

The Census Bureau’s figures have shown the U.S. capital has also overtaken Silicon Valley with having a total household income of $84,523 last year. The average household income for 2010 was $50,046.

The figures show that despite the country being in a full blown depression the nation’s political and financial classes are prospering.
